Rotork Approval

Rotork Controls Ltd, one of the world's market leading actuator manufacturers, have granted MCL Unitex Ltd formal approval for their Firetex fireproof enclosure system. The enclosure is designed to protect Rotork's actuators for periods of up to 30 minutes when exposed to a hydrocarbon fire hazard. A number of formal third party tests were carried out at Warrington Fire Research Station and in January 2002, the system was given full approval by Rotork.

The testing was carried out on a medium sized electrical actuator, model IQ20. MCL have a computer prediction program called 'Calpro' which has been developed over many years using data collected from extensive testing. By entering physical dimensions, equipment mass, fire hazard profile and the required period of protection, the program predicts the final equipment temperature and the required wall thickness of the Firetex enclosure. By running the 'Calpro' program, MCL are able to confidently offer specifications for the full range of Rotork's actuators.
